NICE Project policy on data resources dissemination

The NICE project continues to create a series of linguistic resources which may be of interest to the research community at large. At the same time, for obvious reasons, these resources represent valuable assets for the companies and academic partners in the project, as the resources can be, and are being, exploited for both commercial and research purposes by their creators. This is true of, in particular:

  1. English and Swedish speech data recorded with children in Wizard of Oz (WoZ) setups; and
  2. orthographic transcriptions of the speech data in (a) above.

The NICE consortium's policy regarding (a) and (b) is the following:

  1. NICE Partners NISLab's English orthographic transcriptions and LIMSI's annotated speech and gesture data will be made available to the community at large on the NICE website from the end date of the NICE project on 1 March, 2005, onwards. All data will have been made available one year after the end of the project, at the latest, i.e. on 1 March 2006. Availability means that the resources are briefly described and can be downloaded from the NICE website, free of charge and subject only to filling a declaration form on the purpose of use of the data.
  2. NICE Partner TeliaSonera's Swedish speech data and orthographic transcriptions as well as NISLab English speech data will be announced on the NICE website on 1 March 2005. The announcement will (i) state the existence of the transcriptions/speech data; (ii) provide an email contact address for the NICE participant owner of each transcription/speech corpus; and (iii) state that parties interested in access to the transcriptions/speech data should contact the owner of a particular corpus directly in order to negotiate access terms.
